L’Escargot Blanc restaurant is located in Edinburgh’s West End at 17 Queensferry Street and is the sister restaurant to L’Escargot Bleu’ Broughton Street. Restaurant owners and chef Fred Berkmiller and Betty Jourjon have created a unique atmosphere in this upstairs restaurant with large advertising posters and black & white prints creating a relaxed, contemporary feel.
If you are lucky enough to get a seat next to the windows, you might dream of being in some cosmopolitan area of Paris – but with prime Scottish produce on the menu. Fresh soups, seafood, Scottish salmon, Scotch beef and an inspired cheese board.
Mulling over the menu with an aperitif , you will find dishes that are simple, traditional and seasonal – making full use of the best of Scottish beef, seafoods and locally sourced vegetables. Provenance is paramount and nothing gets through the kitchen door unless directly sourced by Fred. There is only one rule at L’Escargot Blanc – quality, quality and quality. With two thirds produced in Scotland and one third imported from France, this is a showcase of Scottish food with a French twist.
We work directly with traditional French and Scottish producers to create our seasonal artisan offerings, ensuring we’re behind each step of its hand-reared production. We uniquely offer a combination of impeccable French cuisine with the finest Scottish, seasonal larder. Expect a lofty upstairs restaurant with a lively French atmosphere and a down-to-earth welcome with hearty food in an unpretentious setting.
Editor’s Note: As well as the restaurant l’Escargot Blanc’s has it’s own “bar à vin” (wine bar) where you can relax and enjoy their wines, cheeses and charcuteries all day.
