Scottish Farmers Markets and Farm shops are growing in popularity as places to buy and try local produce. These Farmers Market is helping to reconnect consumers with their local farmers and food producers. As well as giving the small farmer a better return on their produce, markets and farm shops provide two way communication and accountability. Throughout Scotland visitors and locals alike are also keen to reduce their food miles – buying local from Farm Shops and Farmers markets is a great start. With a wide range of local  products on display, food samples to taste and friendly banter from the stall holders, this can be a very enjoyable experience.

Aberdeen Country Fair
With over 30,000 visitors each month, this is one of the largest events in Scotland. Based in Belmont Street in the heart of Aberdeen’s entertainment district, the fair brings together up to 40 stalls offering local foods and crafts as well as products from selected guest producers. Extra dates are added for special city events and the popular International Market.

Ardrishaig Farmers’ Market – Lochgilphead

Ayrshire Farmers’ Market
One of Scotland’s first farmers’ markets, the Ayrshire market is located on River Street in front of the Borderline Theatre. Ayrshire is one of Scotland’s most productive areas for quality foods and the market offers a wide range of meat including grass-reared Ayrshire lamb, beef, pork and venison as well as the famous cow, goat and ewes’ cheeses from Dunlop. The market also has its own Co-operative shop which is worth a visit.

Balerno Farmers’ Market
A delightful village setting makes Balerno Farmers’ Market a popular destination on the western outskirts of Edinburgh. Banff Farmers’ Market

Blairgowrie Community Market
The Community market is held in the Blairgowrie Wellmeadow with around twenty local producers/craftworkers offering a wide variety of local produce ranging from local lamb, plants, crafts and soft fruits during the ‘Berry Season’. Cupar Farmers’ Market
Cupar is a bustling market town at the heart of the farming area of north-east Fife. This friendly market is now located at Dobbies Garden Centres in Dunfermline and is organised by the Fife Farmers’ Market Co-Operative. Edinburgh Farmers’ Market
A great start to the weekend. Held on Castle Terrace with the dramatic backdrop of Edinburgh Castle, this farmers market has over 60 specialist suppliers from around Scotland. Most of the stall holders are primary producers selling what they grow or produce. Around a quarter are meat producers offering wild boar,ostrich, venison as well as organic beef, chicken, lamb and pork. Seafood including lobster and shellfish are on offer when in season and fresh fish us always available. Elgin Farmers’ Market
Elgin Farmers Market is held on the ‘plain-stones’ in the centre of Elgin. Glasgow Farmers’ Market – Mansfield Park
Located on the north side of city in the bustling Partick area and only a few minutes from Glasgow University, Kelvin Hall and the newly renovated Kelvin Grove Museum and Galleries this market usually has around 40 stalls selling farm produce, locally grown vegetables, Scottish beef, lamb, venison and wild boar. Insch Farmers Market
The Insch Farmers Market is held inside the Church hall at Insch, a village in Garioch, Aberdeenshire. Location just off the A98 and can be found halfway between Huntly and Inverurie. It is located approximately 28 miles from the city of Aberdeen. The range of local produce on sale will vary but often include farm produce, cheese, meats, preserves, vegetables and fresh fruit as well as home bakes, plants, crafts and secondhand clothing items.

Inverness Farmers’ Market
Inverness, capital of the Highlands, has one of the busiest and best stocked markets with a delicious selection of vegetables, fruit, meat, eggs, bread and cakes, fruit juices and dairy products. This market location is appropriately named Market Place in Inverurie. Kelso, situated on the Tweed, with Floors Castle and a famous racecourse, has much to offer the visitor. Kilmarnock Farmers’ Market
Kilmarnock is a busy shopping town and the monthly farmers’ market adds a truly local flavour for locals and visitors. Kirkcaldy, known as the ‘Lang Toun’, is one of the major population centres in Fife and it is the main shopping centre of the area. There cannot be many farmers’ markets at latitude 59 degrees north but this one is worth seeking out.

Paisley Farmers’ Markets
This is a big farmers’ market is located in County Square, next to Gilmour Street station, so just ten minutes by train from Glasgow’s Central Station. Perth Farmer’s Market

Peterhead Farmers’ Market

St. Andrews Farmers’ Market
Known to the world as the home of golf but St. Andrews is one of the best examples of a medieval market town in Scotland. So it is an appropriate location for one of the busiest farmers’ markets in Fife with visitors mingling with the locals and students from the University. Organised by the Fife Farmers’ Market Co-Operative, there is a wide range of produce on offer from organic meats, fish and poultry to soap, herbal remedies and water buffalo!

Sterling Mills Farmers’ Market
There’s something for everyone here. Sterling Mills is a popular shopping location for bargain hunters. The bonus on the fourth Sunday of each month is the farmers’ market, organised by Forum Event Management, which brings together some of Scotland’s finest producers of beef, lamb, venison and smoked goods as well as vegetables, home baking, and a selection of craft items.

Stirling Farmers’ Market
Stirling Farmers’ Market provides a showcase for a wide range of local produce including Highland beef and lamb, pork, bacon and wild boar, fresh and smoked fish, shellfish, wild venison and game, organic vegetables, home baking and great range of breads plus gluten and dairy-free items, cheese, preserves, deli, oils, salsa, fudge and tablet, as well as a some crafts and garden plants.

Stonehaven Farmers’ Market
Market Square is the very apt location of this busy farmers’ market in the coastal town of Stonehaven.

Tarbert Farmers’ Market
This has to be one of the prettiest locations for a farmers’ market. The harbourside on the 3rd Saturday of the month becomes the backdrop for a variety of stalls selling the best local fish and produce from Argyll and the west of Scotland. Seafood lovers can enjoy the best Scottish seafood and shellfish in this area and enjoy the rugged and unspoiled coastline of Argyll.

Wigtown Farmers’ Market
The Markets Promotion Group in Wigtown is running weekly farmers markets, from Easter till October. The Wigtown market has grown rapidly in size and now has an average of 26 stalls every week, including fresh meat, fruit and vegetables as well as jewellery, clothes, music and books.
